This second Unit 8 transport vocabulary set builds on Vocabulary 1, adding more words for describing journeys, schedules, and getting around by different types of transport. Review the slides above, then study the key terms below.
Key Transport Vocabulary
- Timetable – a list showing when buses, trains, or flights arrive and depart. Example: Check the timetable before you leave for the station.
- Delay – a period of time when something happens later than planned. Example: Heavy rain caused a delay to our flight.
- Platform – the area of a train or subway station where passengers wait to board. Example: The train to the city center leaves from platform 3.
- Congestion – a situation where roads are too crowded with traffic to move freely. Example: Traffic congestion is worst during rush hour.
- Cyclist – a person who rides a bicycle. Example: New bike lanes make the city safer for cyclists.
- Motorway – a wide road built for fast travel between cities. Example: We took the motorway to save time on the drive.
